Camless piston engines may be quite a while away from mass implementation, but the fact that such a technology is being developed should be good news for purists – the roar of the internal combustion engine is not going away anytime soon. In these systems, the camshaft rollers and pushrods have been replaced by an electro-hydraulic actuator system which uses the existing fuel pumps, thus reducing development risks of the new system by employing existing technology.
